Why do they call it "Ragtime"? Best guess is that it alludes to the pervasive rhythmic syncopations in this musical style developed by African-American pianists at the turn of the 20th century. The more regular accentuations of traditional march and processional music is "ragged" by unpredictable off-beat stresses. Remember: friends don't let friends clap on 1 and 3!
