Common Read Discussions

In Defund Fear: Safety Without Policing, Prisons, and Punishment, the 2021-2022 Common Read, community leader and lawyer Zach Norris lays out a radical way to shift the conversation about public safety away from fear and punishment and toward growth and support systems for our families and communities.

We invite you to read Defund Fear, then join one of our four small group discussions:

  • Sun Apr 24 at 11:45m, facilitated by Adine Usher (on Zoom)
  • Tue Apr 26 at 7:30pm, facilitated by Kevin McGahren-Clemens (at CUUC)
  • Sat Apr 30 at 11:00am, facilitated by Jeff Tomlinson (at CUUC and on Zoom)

Fun for Your Family, Committee, Journey Group and Friends - Sign up here
Everyone at CUUC is invited to enjoy the Youth Group's Quest Room, which reflects their Superhero theme. It's open to all! Groups of 4-6 individuals are recommended.

YOUR QUEST: Graduation is fast approaching at CUUC S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy! However, intelligence has been gathered that Hydra agents are planning a campaign in the next few weeks to make sure that the next generation can not stand in the way of Hydra’s quest for world domination! It is up to our heroes in training to find out where and when the campaign will take place. If you can complete this final mission you will be considered ready to take your places amongst the great heroes of our age!

Each group has one hour to complete the quest. Start with the first clue, solve it, and find instructions for the next clue. The room will have up to ten clues to solve. At the end of that hour, please follow the instructions to reset the room for the next group. Sign up here. ENJOY!! Questions? Contact Raquel Belkin, youth@cucpw.org

Facilitators Rev. Lane Cobb and Rev. Eugene Holden will lead an online conversation designed to support traditionally white faith-based organizations that are committed to creating interracial worship communities. The guided webinar will help congregations learn to identify blind spots that create hidden barriers to attracting people of color, deepen their commitment to creating an open and welcoming community, and create a preliminary plan for building interracial worship relationships. Sponsored by the CUUC In the Spirit of Truth/Racial Justice Team.
