Combating Anti-Trans Legislation 101
Political Education Webinar
Tuesday, March 15, 8:00pm
|
|
|
Presented by UU Side with Love and The Trevor Project
Currently, there are approximately 150 anti-transgender bills moving through state legislatures across the country. From banning participation in sports, to so-called "bathroom bills," to legislation that criminalizes providing life-saving gender affirming health care, these bills are deadly for trans and nonbinary people of all ages. Join Side With Love's Rev. Michael Crumpler and Rev. Ashley Horan for a conversation with our friends at the Trevor Project about this horrifying trend, and what we can do to Side With Love on behalf of our trans and nonbinary kin everywhere. This 101 level webinar will educate and inspire so we may Side with Love and publicly declare that trans lives are sacred. Register here.

Calling all 5th-12th grade Superyouth! Are you ready to explore your superpowers? Have you ever thought about how aspects of your identity, e.g., gender identity, could be part of your superpowers?

Are you excited by the thought of turning your unique gifts into a bracelet that affirms your powers and helps you fight your own inner villains? We have an event for you! Merlin Slade, a UU young adult and artist from Hastings who presents at the PrideWorks Conference, will lead our superhero trainees in making beaded power bracelets. We will have an assortment of beads, charms, and cords, and you are welcome to bring supplies from home. We will enjoy pizza together (socially distanced), hear from Merlin as a group (who will join us via Zoom), and then split into JR (5th-7th grade) and SR (8th-12th grade) youth groups to talk about affirming our superpowers and managing our inner villains to be our most authentic selves.
Merlin Slade is a transgender cartoonist known for his comics with Everyday Feminism and for his ongoing webcomic series Adventures In Genderland. You can see some of Merlin’s work here: www.msladeillustration.com and adventuresingenderland.tumblr.com. RSVP to Raquel at youth@cucwp.org so we know how much pizza to order.
