RE is Moving Inside
this Sunday

The weather is getting chilly so we are moving Religious Education classes and activities inside. The CUUC Building Reopening Committee updated our covid protocols and shares this summary. The original "CUUC Reopening Guidelines" are available here
Important Highlights for Families

*Tracy will make sure all children and youth have name tags so we can add a blue dot as they complete vaccination, allowing them to move freely around the building.  Please forward proof of vaccination for children and youth to Tracy (cuucwptracy@gmail.com).

*The sanctuary and main lobby remain vaccinated-only spaces so those who are vaccinated and have an underlying condition feel safe to attend worship. We ask those who are not yet vaccinated to enter through the
RE lobby doors and remain in the RE wing and Fellowship Hall.

*Classes begin at 10:10am. The 8th-9th grade Coming of Age class will meet in classroom 11. The 1st-5th and 6th-7th grade classes will meet in the Fellowship Hall and classroom 41 respectively, allowing those ages 5-11 more space to spread out. All adult leaders in RE are vaccinated.

*Classes end at 11:20am. Elementary-age children must always be picked up by their parent/guardian. They, along with all children and youth who are not yet vaccinated, will wait in Fellowship Hall to be picked up. Children in childcare will be picked up in the childcare room, #32 in the yellow hallway. We ask parents/guardians to pick up your children as soon as the worship service ends so RE leaders may be released to attend meetings or other activities.

We appreciate your ongoing patience and support while we continue paving new paths forward as the pandemic enters new phases. If you have questions or concerns, please contact our Religious Educator, Tracy Breneman (cuucwptracy@gmail.com), or RE Council Co-Chairs, Al Forte (aforte232@gmail.com) and Christine Haran (christineharan@yahoo.com).
Sunday Morning
Childcare

9:30-11:45am, Room 32 in the Yellow Hallway
Diane and Hans offer childcare for young children. Weather permitting, they will play on our outdoor playground. Everyone wears a mask. No snacks are served. Drop off and pick up in room 32, in the yellow hallway.
1st-9th Grade Classes

Sunday, 10:10am-11:20am
We are moving Religious Education classes and activities inside. Enter through the RE lobby doors and visit our Welcome table. As your family completes vaccinations, please bring or e-mail Tracy photos of your cards or other verification so we can put blue dots on name tags of everyone who is vaccinated.
1st-5th Grade Class, Love Will Guide Us: Class meets in Fellowship Hall. Norm H and Gus C are leading. In this session participants explore our fifth Source, which "counsels us to heed the guidance of reason and the results of science." In children's language, reason means we listen to what others say, pay attention to what we ourselves see, hear, and feel, and try to figure out what is true. Participants explore reason and science as means to answer one of the ultimate religious questions, "How did we get here?"

6th-7th Grade Class, Amazing Grace: Exploring Right and Wrong: Class meets in room 41, in the green hallway. Alex Z and Gail J are leading. The third session of Amazing Grace: Exploring Right and Wrong asks youth to consider the nature of virtuous and sinful lives. It is the third in a serious of four sessions that focus on faith as it related to right and wrong, virtue and sin. Youth will hear about several ways religions respond to good and evil.

8th-9th Grade Class, Coming of Age: Class meets in room 11, in the red hallway. Tim L and Raquel B will invite youth to explore the gifts and talents each possesses which can help them on their spiritual journey. They will explore where these gifts come from and how to further develop them, as well as identifying personal priorities and developing ways to understand the consequences of choices we make.

11:20am ~ Pick Up in Fellowship Hall or Childcare
All children in 5th grade and younger, along with unvaccinated youth in 6th grade and older will wait for parents/guardians to pick them up in Fellowship Hall after RE. Children in childcare will be picked up in the childcare room, 32 in the yellow hallway. Please pick up children right after worship so RE leaders may leave for meetings or other activities. Vaccinated youth 6th grade and older with blue dots on their name tags will be released to find their parents/guardians.

All adult leaders are vaccinated. Everyone will observe pandemic safety protocols including wearing masks, and we are skipping snack time for now.
10:00am Worship
In Person & Online

“Reconsidering Rationality” ~ Rev. Meredith Garmon
“The heart has its reasons that reason cannot know” and rationality is indistinguishable from rationalization. Still, along with working on the wholeness of heart and spirit, a little attention to thinking rationally can be helpful too.
At our in-person worship in our sanctuary, we follow Covid safety protocols, showing proof of vaccination, remaining masked, and maintaining social distance from those not in our household. Please have your mask on and proof of vaccination (or blue dot on your nametag) as you enter. We will not yet be hosting in-person or virtual coffee hour after worship.

We livestream the service on Zoom for people to join online or by phone. To watch the service online, click https://bit.ly/CUUC-Worship, or phone in (audio only): 646-876-9923, Webinar: 761 321 991, Passcode: 468468.

Orders of service are e-mailed and uploaded to our website prior to each Sunday.  Revisit past services anytime at our YouTube Channel.

Don't Trash That Pumpkin!

Did you know that every year more than 1 billion pounds of Halloween pumpkins are left to rot in America's landfills, releasing methane gas as they decompose? In Westchester, they are burned in the Peekskill incinerator. This year, take a positive step toward reducing greenhouse gases and pollution by composting your pumpkin or leaving it in your yard or the woods as food for animals. Click here for our list of local municipal food scrap recycling sites.

Contact: Jane Dixon (lilrhodie@gmail.com).

Online Greeters Wanted, Too
Are you Zooming in to our worship each Sunday? Help us extend a warm CUUC welcome to our other virtual attendees by being an online greeter.
