Rev. Meredith Garmon ~ “Some Philosopy about Being Good”
Every so often I like to dust off my philosopher chops, mix a few metaphors, and see what might be said. This time, a look at how philosophers think about the project of being good. A certain pop-culture reference or two is likely.

K-4th Grade Class: Children continue discussing the proposed 8th Principle. The 7 Principles have children’s wording so we will talk about key words in the adult version and brainstorm wording for a CUUC children’s version of the 8th Principle.
5th-12th Grade Classes: Youth will revisit the class covenant, brainstorm aspects of healthy relationships and building positive self-esteem, and play games that build skills for listening to each other and honoring each other’s likes and dislikes. Leaders will explain that we are not offering comprehensive sexuality education online but we are supporting healthy relationship skills nurturing positive self-esteem.
Parents & Caregivers Class: We begin the 10-part series with a conversation that guides adults to recognize their own hopes and fears for their youth in order to play an affirming role in their child’s developing identity and skill. Adults will have the opportunity to recall their own experiences as youth and be intentional about how they want to support their youth who are navigating their own evolving identity and relationships. This is open to all adults, with or without youth participating, and intended to support conversations at home.

This training explores what pastoral care is and gives youth a chance to practice core skills to pastoral care through video and text role play. This training is appropriate for all youth and adults who work with youth. This is Part 1 of a 3 Part Peer Pastoral Care Workshop Series. Register Now. For more information contact cer@uua.org.
