A personal association: The music of the Catalonian composer Federico Mompou has always made me feel that everything’ll be ok. It might be the tenderness and intimacy of his style, or the complete rejection of all ostentation or display: his music has always epitomized the triumph of personal expression over public grandstanding. His “Canciones y danzas” (Songs and Dances) embody an inherently optimistic progression, beginning with introspective lyrical sections and progressing to more extroverted, celebratory dances. His Impresiones intimas (Intimate Impressions) were his first published compositions; they furnish an affectionate glance at domestic life. Read on for programming details.
